CATERPILLAR ROOM - Infants
Children will be assisted in and encouraged to:
Jesus songs will be played or sung.
Look at picture books of Jesus with the caregivers help.
Look in mirrors to see their image, touch image in mirror and explore their features.
Explore the person’s face that is holding him/her.
Be given tummy time every day to be able to roll over, play with feet and eventually sit up.
Pick up toys within reach and manipulate objects with hands and fingers.
Respond to his/her name.
Recognize Jesus’ name.
Fold hands when prayers are prayed.
Respond verbally and physically to praise songs.
Explore toddler books.
Manipulate stacking toys and blocks.
Use large crayons to color.
Finger paint.
Listen to music and move to the rhythm.
Learn how to safely throw/catch a ball.
Children in this age group will be taken at least once a day outside for running and fun.
LADYBUG ROOM – Young Toddlers
Children will be encouraged to:
Recognize Jesus’ name.
Say and repeat simple prayers: “Thank you Jesus for our food.” “Thank you, Jesus, for our day.”
Sing along to Jesus songs.
Learn basic Bible stories.
Explore age appropriate pictures books.
Listen as stories are read.
Role play using his/her imagination with dress up clothes, housekeeping area and other creative play activities.
Explore their senses with sand and water table activities.
Exercise small motor skills by doing large piece puzzles.
Explore art with crayons, paint, and glue on a daily basis.
Children in this age group will be taken at least twice a day outside for running and fun.
SPIDER ROOM – Older Toddlers
Children will be encouraged to:
Recognize Jesus’ name.
Say and repeat prayers: “Thank you Jesus for our food.” “Thank you, Jesus, for our day.”
Sing along to Jesus songs, action songs, and academic songs.
Learn Bible stories.
Explore age appropriate pictures books.
Listen as stories are read.
Role play using his/her imagination with dress up clothes, housekeeping area and other creative play activities.
Explore their senses with sand and water table activities.
Exercise small motor skills by doing large piece puzzles.
Explore art with crayons, paint, and glue on a daily basis.
Practice using scissors.
Children in this age group will be taken at least twice a day outside for running and fun.
GRASSHOPPER ROOM, bumblebee room &
THREE-YEAR-OLD PRESCHOOL
Bumblebee Room (Transitional Preschool): 7:00am-5:30pm
Grasshopper Room (Full Day 3 Year Old Preschool): 7:00am-5:30pm.
Traditional Three Year Old Preschool:
8:15am-11:00am Tuesdays & Thursdays.
Children will be taught:
Jesus Time – Children will learn about God and the world He made through stories and activities. Age appropriate songs and prayers will be used as well.
Music Appreciation – Children will have music time with action songs, musical instruments and rhythm activities.
Listening/Comprehension/Reading Skills – Children will enjoy circle time daily where they will learn basic skills such as days of the week, months of the year, weather, counting and basic alphabet skills.
Reading/Writing Skills – Children will be introduced to letters and how to make their shapes and their sounds. Children will be introduced to and practice the letters in their name.
Shape/Color Recognition – Children will be involved in activities where basic shapes and colors will be taught with tangible objects as well as with art projects.
Tactile Experiences – Children will be given opportunity to learn using paint, play dough and other art mediums.
Role-Play – Children will have play time with different centers for housekeeping, dress up and other role play.
Large Motor Exercise – Children will be given time either outside or in our large motor room to run around and get exercise.
FIREFLY ROOM & FOUR-YEAR-OLD PRESCHOOL
Firefly Room (Full Day 4 Year Old Preschool): 7:00am-5:30pm.
Traditional Four Year Old Preschool: 8:15am-11:00am Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Children will be taught:
Jesus Time – Children will learn about God and the world He made through stories and activities. Age appropriate songs and prayers will be used as well.
Music Appreciation – Children will have music time with action songs, musical instruments and rhythm activities. They will learn the difference between high and low pitch sounds.
Listening/Comprehension/Reading Skills – Children will enjoy circle time daily where they will learn basic skills such as days of the week, months of the year, weather, counting and alphabet skills.
Reading/Writing Skills – Children will learn about letters and how to make their shapes and their sounds. Children will learn to recognize their name. Children will practice the letters in their first and last name. They will have activities that help them learn the alphabet in order. They will learn the concept of reading left to right as the teacher demonstrates while reading to the children.
Sorting/Counting Skills – Children will be able to identify numbers 1 – 10. They will be able to do a one-to-one correspondence with one, two, three, four and five objects. They will begin to do money activities.
Science Skills – Children will be involved in activities that help them learn their five senses. They will learn basic information about plants and animals through observations and field trips. They will learn about color and how they can make new colors. They will do simple experiments with their teacher to learn to understand how the world God gave us works.
Social Studies Skills – Children will learn about the world God has created for them. They will learn about different cultures as well as their own community and neighborhood.
Art Skills – Children will be able to use different mediums like paint, markers, play dough, clay, glue, chalk, glitter, etc. to develop their own creative expression. They will use different colors and shapes for creating art projects.
Large Motor Exercise – Children will be given time either outside or in our large motor room to run around and get exercise. Children will practice running, hopping and learning to skip.
Great Start to Readiness Program (GSRP)
(Must be 4 years old before September 1)
Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm
The ECC-GSRP uses the Creative Curriculum. This curriculum provides a room arrangement and daily routine that is structured to permit a variety of interactions between both adults and children. The curriculum provides for a balance between individual, small group, and large group activities. We have interest areas that include: blocks, art, dramatic play, library, discovery, sensory, and music. Content areas include literacy, math, social studies, science, the arts, and processing skills in order to provide growth in large and small motor skills, language development, social/emotional development, cognitive development. This content adheres to the Michigan Department of Education’s Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Pre-kindergarten.
Summer Camp
Summer Camp is offered each summer beginning the Monday after St. Peter’s Lutheran School dismisses for the summer through the Friday before the week school begins. Summer Camp is for all children who have completed 4 year old preschool thru 5th grade. Their daily schedule will include the following:
Bible Story
Crafts
Academic Learning Games
Recreation Time (either outdoors or in the school gym)
In addition, Summer Camp will have special movie days as well as field trips both in house and off site. The registration fee covers the cost of field trips and craft supplies. Permission slips and information will be sent home prior to these field trips.
